RISING STAR: The inspiring journey of Alexandre Cormier

Cross-country skiing is a sport that harmonizes the passion for gliding and the determination to push one’s. At the heart of this spirit of competition and adventure, Groupe Piché has chosen to support Alexandre Cormier, a talented young athlete who embodies these values exceptionally well.

Awakening of Talent

Alexandre, driven by a profound passion for sports, entered the world of cross-country skiing relatively late, at the age of 14. He was already engaged in hockey and running for a few years. It was through friends he met in his running club and the encouragement of his father, who saw potential in him for a future in this sport, that Alexandre immersed himself in the world of cross-country skiing. Since then, he has led the life of a student-athlete, dedicating as much effort to his education as to sports. He recently made the strategic decision to change Cegeps to study in Quebec City, where he is pursuing a degree in natural sciences. This change allows him to train at the Pierre-Harvey National Training Center, the most high-performing center in Canada, where he trains alongside several athletes active in the World Cup.

Forging Passion: Training and Dedication

Over the years, Alexandre has managed to transform his passion into a flourishing career. His dedication and tenacity have propelled him to new heights. Each season, he engages in rigorous training, refining his technique and enhancing his physical condition to face the challenges of competition. Training routines vary but include roller skiing, running, strength training, and cycling, making the physical conditioning of a cross-country athlete comprehensive. All while balancing with his college studies !

Overcoming Obstacles: Highs and Lows

Like any athlete, Alexandre’s journey has not been without obstacles. Each challenge has acted as a driver for his progress, pushing him to excel and continue aspiring to achieve results that meet his expectations.

Notable achievements etched in his memory include his first place finish in the 15 kilometer skate mass start and his fifth place finish in the classic sprint at the 2023 Canadian Winter Games. In 2022, he stood out at the Canadian Championships, securing a third place finish in the 10-kilometer skate individual start and a fifth place finish in the classic sprint, placing him third in the overall ranking.

A significant challenge for Alexandre, as well as all cross-country skiers, is managing his fitness to perform at the highest level at the right time. This management was particularly complex for him in the past year, resulting in some disappointment at the last Canadian Championships. Despite results falling short of his expectations, Alexandre demonstrates great resilience. He meticulously analyzes his performances, identifies areas for improvement, and adjusts for upcoming competitions.

Network of Excellence

Alexandre benefits from a strong support network that surrounds and accompanies him in his athletic journey. He particularly mentions his mother, brother, and sister, who support his career daily, as well as his coaches, both those who introduced him to the sport and those who continue to motivate him today.

The same goes for Yourik Piché, our Vice President of Construction, who has known Alexandre since a young age. Being a dedicated athlete himself, Yourik makes it a priority to support inspiring athletes like Alexandre.

The Impact of Groupe Piché’s Support

Groupe Piché’s continuous support over the past few years has allowed Alexandre to participate in training camps in Western Canada, essential for his preparation for upcoming seasons. These camps, although costly and requiring travelling, have had a positive impact on his performance. Alexandre, deeply grateful for the financial assistance provided by performances.

Alexandre, deeply grateful for the financial assistance provided by Groupe Piché and all of its sponsors, highlights the relief from financial stress that it brings him. It is encouraging for him to see so many people supporting and encouraging him to pursue his passion.

As a company commited to promoting sports and a healthy lifestyle, we are proud to support athletes like Alexandre. Our partnership goes beyond mere financial contributions; we believe in his potential, determination, and ability to inspire others to pursue their passions.

Looking to the Future

Alexandre approaches the 2023-2024 season with confidence and motivation. His primary goal is to qualify for the Junior World Championships in Planica, Slovenia, while aspiring to secure a spot on Team Canada. Having come close to achieving these goals in the previous year, he is determined to make them a reality this season.

Although Alexandre does not hide his interest in eventually pursuing a professional athletic career, he remains open to various possibilities. He is currently completing his college studies in natural sciences and strives to maintain an excellent academic record, as he envisions a potential career in the healthcare field.

Alexandre Cormier’s story is a source of inspiration for anyone who dreams of reaching great heights, whether on snowy slopes or in other aspects of life. His determination, passion, and perseverance are qualities that transcend sports and have shaped him into the athlete he is today.

We look forward to seeing Alexandre continue to write his story on the cross-country ski trails !
